Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Building (140 New Montgomery)

The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Building at 140 New Montgomery Street served for much of the 20th century as a major regional telephone company headquarters and switching center. The building is a recognizable downtown landmark that reflects the era when large telecommunications companies constructed monumental urban offices. In later decades the property was adapted for modern commercial and residential uses while retaining its historic presence in the Financial District.
