Originally established as the Congregation Ohabai Shalome, it became a prominent Orthodox Jewish synagogue before transitioning to a Buddhist temple and later a Baptist church. The building is notable for its Moorish Revival and Venetian Gothic Revival architecture, featuring redwood construction and intricate design elements. After years of decline and abandonment, it was repurposed in 2003 as Kokoro Assisted Living, a retirement home primarily for Japanese-American seniors.
