Kız Kulesi, Rize

Kız Kulesi, a medieval castle situated on a small islet just 1 km from the center of Pazar in Rize Province, Turkey, dates back to the 13th to 14th centuries, possibly built during the Trebizond Empire. Some sources attribute its construction to the Genoese, who may have created it as a summer residence for a prince's daughter. Local legend suggests it was once owned by Queen Tamar of Georgia, a significant figure in the region's history. The castle features a robust architectural design with walls approximately 1.5 meters thick and a compact interior layout of about 7 x 7 meters, making it a fascinating site for both tourists and researchers interested in medieval history and architecture.
