Thiesen Building

The Thiesen Building, constructed in 1901, is a historic landmark in Pensacola, Florida, recognized as the city's first commercial high-rise. Located at the intersection of South Palafox and West Romana Streets, it was the tallest building in Pensacola at the time and featured innovative amenities like a mechanical passenger elevator and steam heat. Designed in Renaissance Revival style with intricate terra-cotta ornamentation, the building was financed by Christen Ustrup Thiesen, a Danish immigrant who turned a challenging situation into a successful business venture. Despite facing periods of neglect, the building was renovated in the 1990s and now houses various offices, preserving its historical significance while contributing to the city's architectural heritage.
