Karnofsky Tailor Shop–House

The Karnofsky Tailor Shop–House, located in New Orleans' Central Business District, was a historic building integral to the early jazz scene. Built around 1910, it served as a home and business for the Karnofsky family, who notably supported young Louis Armstrong in his musical career. The building housed a secondhand store and later a tailor shop, and was recognized for its cultural significance by being listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Despite plans for restoration, it was ultimately destroyed by Hurricane Ida in 2021, marking the loss of a key site in jazz history.
