Lloyd's Building, Colombo

Lloyd's Building, a striking five-storey structure in Colombo Fort, was constructed in 1908 and originally known as the Freudenberg Building. Designed by Edward Skinner, it served as the headquarters for Freudenberg and Company, a significant player in Sri Lanka's coffee trade and later in banking and shipping. The building's ownership has changed hands several times, with notable tenants including various insurance and oil companies. In 2009, it was acquired by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and underwent renovations, reopening in 2011. The building is a fine example of late 19th-century British architecture, featuring ornate interiors and a charming exterior, making it a must-visit for tourists and researchers interested in Sri Lanka's commercial history.
