Kingsley Plantation and Indigenous Shell Middens

Kingsley Plantation, on Fort George Island within the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, preserves pre-contact and historic-period archaeological features including shell middens and other evidence of Native American occupation, attributed in the archaeological record to ancestral peoples of the Timucua cultural area. The National Park Service interprets both the Indigenous archaeological record and later historical layers at the plantation site. The site is used for public education about indigenous lifeways and regional cultural history.
