C.M. Sanborn Building

The C.M. Sanborn Building, constructed in 1896 in Maquoketa, Iowa, is a notable example of High Victorian Italianate architecture. This historic three-story brick structure features distinctive design elements such as cast hoodmolds, twin oriel windows, and an ornate cornice. Originally built by local grocer C.M. Sanborn, who also served as the general contractor, the building has housed various retail businesses and office spaces over the years. Notably, a Masonic lodge occupied the third floor until 1968. The building was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
