Buried Cohocksink Creek near Penn's Landing

Cohocksink Creek was a tidal stream that flowed through what is now Old City and emptied into the Delaware River near present-day Penn's Landing. During the 19th century the creek was channelized and progressively buried to accommodate urban development; its former valley still affects subsurface drainage and infrastructure in Old City. Historic maps show its course crossing modern streets around 2nd and 3rd Streets, and archaeological investigations reference its former channel.
