The Grand Ole Opry House opened in 1974 as the new home for the Grand Ole Opry, which originated as a radio program on WSM in 1925. The Opry House continues to present the weekly country music stage show that carries the Grand Ole Opry name and format. The move in 1974 transferred the Opry from the Ryman Auditorium to a purpose-built venue in the Opryland area of Nashville.
