Te Raukura

Te Raukura, also known as Te Wharewaka o Poneke, is a culturally significant building located on the Wellington waterfront in New Zealand. Opened on Waitangi Day in 2011, it serves as a conference venue and houses the Karaka Cafe. The design of the building is inspired by traditional Māori elements, resembling a korowai cloak and the sails of canoes, symbolizing the rich heritage of the local iwi. It re-establishes a Māori presence in an area historically significant to the Māori community. Visitors can explore the nearby attractions, including the Wellington Museum and City Gallery, and participate in waka tours featuring traditional canoes like Te Rerenga Kotare and Te Hononga, which embody the spirit of unity and cultural pride.
