Game of the Century at the Astrodome

On January 20, 1968 the Houston Astrodome hosted the college basketball 'Game of the Century' between the University of Houston (Elvin Hayes) and UCLA (Lew Alcindor). The game drew an announced crowd of 52,693, setting a then-world record attendance for a basketball game. The matchup is widely cited as a landmark event in the national popularization of college basketball and of televised college sports.
