Fort Zoutman

Fort Zoutman, located in Oranjestad, Aruba, is the island's oldest structure, built in 1798 by African slaves with materials from the Amerindians. This military fortification, named after Dutch Rear Admiral Johan Arnold Zoutman, was established to defend against pirates and has a rich history, including the addition of the Willem III Tower in 1868. The fort has served various purposes over the years and was restored to become the Historical Museum of Aruba in 1983, showcasing the island's early history. It is a key tourist attraction, hosting the Bon Bini Festival every Tuesday, and offers guided tours for visitors interested in Aruba's cultural heritage.
