Burkill Hall

Burkill Hall is a historic bungalow located in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, renowned as the last Anglo-Malayan plantation-style house in the region and possibly the world. Built in 1868, it originally served as the residence for the directors of the gardens, featuring broad verandahs and high ceilings for natural light and ventilation. The building has a rich history, having housed notable figures such as gardens superintendent Henry James Murton and the first scientific director, Sir Henry Nicholas Ridley. After a controversial repainting in 1960, it was restored to its original white color in 2013, preserving its historical significance.
