Ryman Auditorium, built for Thomas G. Ryman

Ryman Auditorium was constructed in the 1890s after Nashville riverboat captain Thomas G. Ryman funded a tabernacle project and the building was originally known as the Union Gospel Tabernacle. The venue was later renamed Ryman Auditorium in his honor and became a seminal performance hall in Nashville history. It served as the longtime home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974 and is widely preserved as a historic music landmark. The Ryman remains an active concert venue and museum in downtown Nashville.
