Assassination of Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre

On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth while attending a performance at Ford's Theatre. Ford's Theatre is preserved as a historic site and museum chronicling the assassination and 19th-century theatrical life; Lincoln was carried from the theater to the Petersen House across the street and died the following morning. The site includes the restored 1860s theater and interpretive exhibits about the events of that night.
