Melrose Caverns and Harrison Farmstead

Located in rural Rockingham County, Virginia, Melrose Caverns and Harrison Farmstead is a historic site featuring a series of captivating caves that have attracted visitors since the American Civil War. The property includes a Greek Revival farmhouse built around 1859 and several agricultural outbuildings, including a log summer kitchen dating back to possibly 1820. After a hiatus, commercial tours of the caverns resumed in 2020, allowing tourists to explore this fascinating landmark. The site has been in the Harrison family since it was granted to John Harrison in 1748 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
