WWJ (originally 8MK) at The Detroit News Building - early commercial radio broadcasting

WWJ began regular radio broadcasts in 1920 under the experimental call sign 8MK, broadcasting from facilities in The Detroit News building. The station is widely documented as one of the earliest regularly scheduled commercial radio broadcasters in the United States. Early transmissions originated from The Detroit News' studios and transmission equipment housed in that building. The station later adopted the WWJ call letters and continued broadcasting from Detroit.
