Jenkins House (Bastrop, Texas)

The Jenkins House is a historic home located in Bastrop, Texas, built around 1836 for Sarah Jenkins, whose life was marked by tragedy as both of her husbands were killed in conflicts. Originally a single-room log cabin, it evolved into a two-room structure with a distinctive 'dog-trot' design, later enhanced with a kitchen, dining area, and Victorian-style porch. Recognized for its historical significance, the house became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in Texas history.
