Great Molasses Flood site

On January 15, 1919, a large molasses storage tank burst in Boston's North End, sending a wave of molasses through the streets and killing 21 people; this event is known as the Great Molasses Flood. The tank was located on Commercial Street near what is now marked as 529 Commercial St, and the disaster prompted changes in engineering oversight and building regulations. The event remains a widely documented and cited catastrophe in Boston history.
