North Worcester Aid Society

The North Worcester Aid Society, established in 1874 in Worcester, Massachusetts, was a charitable organization aimed at providing clothing for children orphaned during the American Civil War. Initially meeting in a school, the society moved to its dedicated building at 58 Holden Street in 1887, featuring a simple wood-frame design with minimal architectural embellishments. In 1928, an addition designed by architect G. Adolph Johnson enhanced the facility with dining and social spaces. Although it thrived in the 1940s, the society eventually dissolved in 1990. The historic building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and now serves as a private residence, making it a point of interest for visitors and researchers alike.
