Nietzsche Archive

The Nietzsche Archive, located in Weimar, Germany, is dedicated to preserving the life and works of the influential philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Founded in 1894 by his sister, Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, the archive aimed to collect and safeguard Nietzsche's writings and correspondence, becoming a pivotal site for his reception in Germany. Despite facing criticism for alleged document manipulation, it played a significant role in shaping public discourse around Nietzsche's philosophy until the end of World War II. After the war, the archive was dissolved in East Germany, but its holdings were later made accessible to Western researchers. Today, housed in the Villa Silberblick, the archive operates as a museum under the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, offering insights into Nietzsche's legacy and the historical context of his works.
