Chernov House

The Chernov House, located at 69 Bolshaya Sadovaya Street in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, is a striking example of Art Nouveau architecture built in the 1890s. Originally commissioned by merchant Karapet Chernov, the building was initially three storeys high but was expanded to five due to a housing boom. It features a richly decorated facade with Corinthian and Ionic pilasters, intricate floral ornaments, and delicate iron-cast railings on its balconies. The house has a fascinating history, including its use by various financial institutions before being nationalized after the 1917 revolution. It suffered damage during World War II but was restored, albeit with some loss of its original design. Today, it houses the Rostov State University of Economics, making it a significant cultural heritage site in the region.
