Helsinki University Observatory

The Helsinki University Observatory, established in 1834, was once a leading astronomical facility in Finland, designed by professor Friedrich Wilhelm Argelander and architect Carl Ludvig Engel. It housed significant astronomical instruments and books that survived a great fire in Turku. Although it ceased active operations in the mid-20th century, the observatory has been transformed into an engaging visitor centre and museum since its renovation in 2012. Visitors can explore its historical significance, including a unique astrophotography telescope tower built in 1890, and learn about the evolution of astronomy in Finland.
