Thorps Building

Thorps Building is a heritage-listed commercial structure located in Ravenswood, Queensland, built around 1903. Originally established by Sydney Hood Thorp, a mining agent, it served as a vital supply hub for miners during the gold rush era. The building is notable for being the only two-storey shop still standing in Ravenswood, a town that played a significant role in North Queensland's gold mining history. Despite the decline of gold production, Ravenswood thrived for several years due to nearby silver discoveries and improved mining techniques. The building has housed various businesses over the years, including hardware and machinery suppliers, and was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992, making it an important site for both tourists and researchers interested in the region's rich mining heritage.
