Scavenius' Stiftelse

Scavenius' Stiftelse is a historic listed building located in the charming town of Sorø, Denmark, known for its rich history dating back to at least 1682. Originally owned by Byfoged Mads Christensen, it has seen various notable owners, including Jacob Mandix and his daughter Lucie, one of Denmark's first female painters. In 1833, Hector Frederik Janson Estrup transformed the building into residences for widows of teachers from the nearby Sorø Academy. Architecturally, the building features a striking timber frame with red brick fillings and a steep half-hip roof, showcasing a restoration from 1910 that highlighted its original red dressing. Visitors can admire its unique design, including a one-storey barn and a two-storey extension, making it a significant landmark in Sorø's historical landscape.
