Austin Hall (Harvard University)

Constructed between 1882 and 1884 in the Romanesque Revival style, it was the first building specifically built for an American law school and served as the inaugural home of Harvard Law School. The hall features a striking T-shaped design with a central entryway adorned with Romanesque arches and a distinctive asymmetric stairway tower. Inside, it houses large classrooms designed for the innovative Socratic method curriculum and the prestigious Ames Courtroom, where moot court sessions are held, often presided over by a U.S. Supreme Court justice. The building's ornate reading room is noted for its beautifully crafted fireplace and intricately carved beams.
