Bell Laboratories Building

The Bell Laboratories Building, located at 463 West Street in Manhattan, is a historic complex that served as the largest industrial research center in the U.S. from 1898 to 1966. It was pivotal in developing groundbreaking technologies such as radar, television, and the phonograph record. The site also played a role in the Manhattan Project during World War II. After extensive renovations, it reopened in 1970 as the Westbeth Artists Community, providing affordable housing for artists along with a theater and art gallery. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, it showcases successful adaptive reuse of historic properties.
