Scripps Pier: restricted-access oceanographic research pier

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography Pier in La Jolla is a long-term oceanographic research pier used for instrument deployment, sampling, and wave and current monitoring. It is owned and operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego) and is generally closed to the public for safety and research reasons; access is limited to researchers and special guided events. The pier's restricted status makes direct, casual observation or access difficult compared with typical public piers.
