Red Maples (Southampton, New York)

Red Maples was a grand estate established in the early 20th century in Southampton, New York, spanning fifteen acres and named for the maple trees that adorned its entrance. Designed by architects Hiss and Weekes, the estate featured a main house, gardens, and various ancillary buildings, completed in 1913. The estate has a rich history, originally commissioned by Alfred W. Hoyt as a gift for his family, but after his untimely death, it passed through several notable owners, including socialites and a General Motors executive. Although the main house was demolished in 1947, remnants like a gate house and carriage house remain, offering a glimpse into its storied past. Today, the land has been subdivided, but the legacy of Red Maples continues to intrigue visitors and researchers alike.
