Original Joe's – origin of Joe's Special

Original Joe's opened in San Jose in 1937 and its original South First Street location became a landmark for Italian-American dining in the city. The restaurant's "Joe's Special," an omelette with ground beef, spinach, and tomatoes, originated at this San Jose location and became its signature dish. The establishment played a prominent role in downtown San Jose's restaurant scene through the 20th century.
