Fort Point National Historic Site

Fort Point is a brick masonry seacoast fort completed in 1861 to defend the entrance to San Francisco Bay and is located beneath the southern approach of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is administered as a National Historic Site and preserves military architecture and interpretive exhibits about coastal defense history. Fort Point has also been used as a filming location, including scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 film Vertigo.
