The Sun-n-Sand Motor Hotel, opened in 1960 in Jackson, Mississippi, was a significant lodging site for politicians and civil rights activists, especially during the 1960s. Designed in mid-century modern style, it featured large windows and a swimming pool, and became a hub for political discussions among legislators due to its proximity to the Mississippi State Capitol. The motel also played a crucial role in the civil rights movement, hosting notable figures like Robert L. Carter and serving as a meeting place for activists during the Freedom Summer project. Despite its historical importance, the motel closed in the early 2000s and faced demolition in 2021, sparking preservation efforts that recognized it as a Mississippi Landmark.
