Hollenfelz House

The Hollenfelz House, located in Dubuque, Iowa, is a striking example of Second Empire architecture, originally built as a residence for wine and liquor merchant Michael Hollenfelz. Its distinctive mansard roof, dormers, and cupola, along with unique High Victorian decorative elements, make it a notable landmark. In 1906, it transitioned to St. Mary's High School for Boys, operated by the Brothers of Mary, focusing on business education until its closure in 1929. The building later served as a parish grade school and was converted into apartments in 1957. Recognized for its historical significance, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and is part of the Washington Residential Historic District.
