Charles Sumner Post No. 25, Grand Army of the Republic

Charles Sumner Post #25 is a historic fraternal lodge in Chestertown, Maryland, built around 1908. This two-story building, significant for being one of only two surviving Grand Army of the Republic halls for African-American veterans, was abandoned for many years before being restored and opened as a museum in 2014. It highlights the contributions of African-Americans during the Civil War and is located in a historically black area within the Chestertown Historic District. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 and is recognized for its cultural and historical importance.
