Old Meeting House (Marblehead)

The Old Meeting House, built in 1696 in Marblehead, Massachusetts, is a significant historical site as the second meeting house for the congregationalist church. It features the largest surviving group of joined interior paneling from 17th-century New England. The building's architecture includes a distinctive tower with a bell, town clock, and a Golden Cod weathervane. Inside, it originally housed 74 box pews and a pulpit adorned with gilt stars representing the original colonies. The meeting house served as a dual-purpose venue for church services and town meetings until its decline in the early 19th century, leading to its eventual abandonment and demolition. Today, it stands as a testament to the region's colonial history and architectural heritage.
