Gilchrist House (Cordova, Alabama)

The Gilchrist House, a historic farmhouse near Cordova, Alabama, was built in 1812 and is recognized as one of the oldest surviving structures in the state. Originally constructed by Edmon Gilchrist, who migrated from South Carolina, the house showcases early 19th-century architecture with its two-story timber frame design and distinctive chimneys. Although it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, the house was tragically destroyed by fire in the late 1990s. Despite its loss, the site remains a point of interest for tourists and researchers exploring Alabama's rich historical heritage.
