Helsinki University Observatory

The Helsinki University Observatory, established in 1834, was once a leading astronomical research facility in Finland, designed by professor Friedrich Wilhelm Argelander and architect Carl Ludvig Engel. After serving as a hub for astronomy until 2009, it has been transformed into a visitor centre and museum, showcasing its historical significance and modern astronomical instruments. Notably, it features a unique double refractor telescope designed for astrophotography. Located in the city centre, the observatory offers a glimpse into the evolution of astronomical research and is home to the amateur astronomy association Ursa.
