The Mail Building (Toronto)

The Mail Building, originally constructed in the 1870s and designed by Richard A. Waite, was an iconic structure in Toronto that housed The Toronto Mail newspaper. Located at the bustling intersection of Bay Street and King Street West, the building featured a distinctive 5-storey spire atop its 4 floors. Despite suffering significant fire damage in 1884, it was fully restored. In 1938, the building was sold for $600,000, but was demolished the following year to make way for a new Bank of Montreal building. Today, the site is occupied by the podium of First Canadian Place, marking the historical significance of this once-prominent landmark.
