Eastern Market, Capitol Hill public markethouse

Eastern Market opened in 1873 on Capitol Hill as a public markethouse and remains a working market serving the neighborhood. The building and adjacent market hosts indoor vendors, prepared-food stalls, and a weekend farmers' market and arts market. Its continuous role as a local food marketplace makes it one of Washington, D.C.'s oldest and best-known market institutions.
