Van Vorst House

The Van Vorst House, located at 531 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey, is a colonial-era residence built around 1740-1742, making it one of the oldest buildings in the city. This historic stone house was constructed by the Van Vorst family, descendants of early settlers who played a significant role in the region's development. The family established the Township of Van Vorst, which includes the notable Van Vorst Park. Cornelius Van Vorst, a prominent family member, served as mayor of Jersey City from 1860 to 1862 and was responsible for the construction of the Barrow Mansion, a local landmark.
