Metropolitan District Commission Pumping House

The Metropolitan District Commission Pumping House, built in 1901, is a historic water pumping station located near Spot Pond in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Renowned for its Renaissance Revival architecture, this building is a significant part of the Middlesex Fells Reservation and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Originally designed to support the water supply for nearby communities, it features distinctive yellow brick construction with limestone trim and rusticated arched windows. Although it suffered extensive fire damage in 1975, the pumping house remains a fascinating site for tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
