Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture

The Harvey B. Gantt Center is Charlotte's primary cultural institution dedicated to African-American visual and performing arts and is named for Harvey B. Gantt, Charlotte's first African-American mayor. The center's facility opened in 2009 as part of the Levine Center for the Arts and regularly mounts rotating exhibitions and public programs. Its public-facing plaza and gallery spaces have hosted outdoor and site-specific public art installations and community art events. The center serves as a major venue for public engagement with African-American art in Charlotte.
