Pioneer Flour Mills and the Guenther House

Carl Hilmar Guenther established a commercial flour mill on the San Antonio River in the 19th century; the family mill complex and the Guenther family home survive along the river. The house at the site now operates as the Guenther House restaurant and includes exhibits about the family's Pioneer Flour Mills, which played a significant role in San Antonio's food-production history. The Guenther mill machinery and records document local milling and baking practices dating back to the 1800s.
