Telegraph Hill parrots (Filbert Steps)

A feral flock commonly known as the Telegraph Hill parrots-primarily cherry-headed conures-has roosted in the Telegraph Hill/Filbert Steps area since the late 20th century. They were the subject of Mark Bittner’s book and the 2003 documentary "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill." The birds’ noisy gatherings and close proximity to people have produced numerous widely shared photographs and viral videos. Visitors often congregate on the Filbert Steps and nearby viewpoints hoping to see and photograph the flock.
