George Washington Carver Museum (former Carver School)

The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center is housed in the former George Washington Carver School building, which served Austin's African American students during the era of legally enforced school segregation. After schools were desegregated and the building ceased functioning as a neighborhood school, the structure was converted into a museum and cultural center serving East Austin. The museum preserves artifacts and archives documenting African American history and culture in Austin and Central Texas.
