James H. Dillard House

The James H. Dillard House, located at 571 Audubon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a historic residence built in the 19th century. It served as the home of James H. Dillard, a prominent educator for African-Americans in the South from 1894 to 1913, during a challenging era for race relations. The house features a distinctive cruciform design with a neoclassical portico and has remained largely unchanged since Dillard's time. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974, it reflects the significant contributions of Dillard, who was instrumental in advancing education for African-Americans and for whom Dillard University is named.
