Eiðar longwave transmitter

The Eiðar longwave transmitter, located near Egilsstaðir in East Iceland, was a significant broadcasting facility for RÚV, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, operating from 1938 until its demolition in March 2023. Initially starting with a modest 1 kW power on medium-wave, it evolved into a powerful 100 kW longwave transmitter with a striking 221-meter tall steel lattice mast. This transmitter played a vital role in filling gaps in FM radio coverage and providing essential communication for seafarers.
