Originally the site of the historic Fountain Inn and later the Raleigh Hotel, the current structure was completed in 1968 as part of a redevelopment plan. It underwent a significant $40 million renovation from 2000 to 2002, enhancing its facade and increasing its interior space. The building features a unique light pipe that channels natural light into its offices, making it a modern architectural highlight in the historic Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site.
