Laughton Place

Laughton Place is a historic building located near Lewes, Sussex, and is owned by the Landmark Trust. Originally an old fortified manor purchased by the Pelham family in 1466, it was rebuilt in 1534 by Sir William Pelham. The remaining structure, Laughton Tower, was restored in the 1980s and is notable for being one of the first brick-built buildings in the county. The tower likely served as an observation point over the surrounding marshes, blending practical use with aesthetic enjoyment. The area was once a hub for brick manufacturing, with four brickworks operating until just before World War II.
